Too Much Green

The visiting Big Green brought too much power and finesse for the Martlets, taking home a 6-1 win, the six wins coming in the top spots, all at 3-0. Ellie Bailey '21 had to move up to No. 1, and she fought gamely to earn a 2, 6, 2 score line. Some traction was also found by Eve Cathcart '20 at No. 5 and Gemma Green '21 at No. 6, who earned lines of 6, 7, 1 and 6, 7, 3, respectively. The bright spots were at No. 7 and in the exhibition match. Lauren Way '20 claimed the Martlets lone point with a gritty 3-1 win at No. 7 ((11), 7, 9, 11) on the strength of aggressive volleying and a deft short game. And Shelby Oken '22 forced her opponent into the back corners enough to earn a respectable 5, (7), 3, 2 outcome in a losing effort.
