Advising

A Trusted Mentor Every Step of the Way

At Westminster, every student has a faculty advisor who serves as a trusted mentor, advocate, and guide throughout their time on Williams Hill. Advising reflects our commitment to knowing each student as an individual and supporting their academic, personal, and social growth.

Advisors help students navigate challenges, celebrate successes, and develop the confidence and independence needed to thrive. They also serve as an important connection between home and school, partnering with families to support each student’s experience.

The Advising Experience

Advising is an intentional part of daily life at Westminster. New students are thoughtfully paired with an advisor by the Dean of Students and Dean of Admission, while returning students may choose their advisor each year, allowing relationships to grow over time or offering the opportunity to connect with different faculty mentors.

Students meet with their advisors at least once each week and often connect much more frequently—in the classroom, dining hall, residence halls, afternoon activities, during advisory lunches, or simply while walking across campus. Advisors monitor academic progress, encourage personal growth, help students navigate challenges, and celebrate milestones along the way.

These relationships are among the most meaningful and enduring aspects of a Westminster education. By combining high expectations with genuine care, advisors help students grow not only as scholars, but also as confident, compassionate, and responsible young adults.
