The Westminster Cross Country program has a long tradition of hard work, camaraderie and success, dating back to the start of the program under Richard Miller in 1972. During the fall season, the athletes invariably improve substantially in their aerobic capacity and strength, as demonstrated by their times at nine meets, six of which have invitational or championship formats. Most importantly for the coaches, however, cross country athletes gain an appreciation for the sport, bolster self-confidence by overcoming physical challenges and develop friendships that last throughout their Westminster careers and beyond.
The team trains on Westminster’s beautiful campus and in surrounding parks, with almost all runs occurring on trail. The squad also engages in regular plyometrics, pool workouts, yoga and weight training to complement time spent on the trails and to help develop general athleticism.
