Martlets Battle Porter's

After almost two weeks without a match, the Martlets were excited to host Miss Porter’s. It was a bit of a rocky start to the first set, but after being down 18-8, the Martlets battled back to close out the first set 18-25. They brought that momentum to the second set, and went back and forth for points until claiming victory over Miss Porter’s for our first set win of the season. The team gave it their all for that set, hustling to every free ball, swinging at as many sets as possible and supporting one another. Ella Hammel’28 led the charge as our setter, directing and setting up many plays. Chloe Donovan’29 dominated not only the net but also the back row. Sadie Kahn’28 and Ainslee Deptula’28 were key defensive specialists who protected the court from tips and ran to every deep corner as needed. Sadie was also the first libero that our varsity team has ever had, she stepped right into that position and made incredible digs. Although the Martlets fell to Miss Porter’s in the final two sets, they put great effort in the first half of the match and we just need to bring that initial energy to our match against Ethel Walker on Friday afternoon.

Our Grit and Grace player of the game is Sadie Kahn’28, who not only was our first libero but also played that position as if she had been doing so for years.
