Martlets Defeat SA, Berkshire & Fall to Taft

The cross-country team raced in a four-team meet versus Suffield, Berkshire, and Taft at Suffield Academy this past Saturday. The 5k/3.1-mile race saw 20 runners toe the line for Westminster and 17 were able to finish the race with a personal or season’s best racing time! Nine runners- Michael Wang (’27), Charlie Zhang (’29), Trey Ferretti (’30), Asher Squibb (’29), Leo Song (’30), Eli Wilderman (’29), Daniel Frid (’27), Asher Li (’30), and Allston Chen (’29) - all ran personal fastest times. What an amazing achievement!

The race saw some amazing sprint finishes, and it ended with two victories against both Suffield and Berkshire and one close defeat (34-23) against Taft. The Taft matchup was particularly interesting, as they had pretty much swept the podium (top 5) against us last year, so this is a huge improvement. Michael Wang (’27) and Charlie Zhang (’29) led the way with a second and third place overall finish out of the entire race. Also scoring for Westminster were Leo Song (’30), Asher Squibb (’29), and Trey Ferretti (’30), proving that the future is bright for Westy.

GRIT & Grace Award – The award this week goes to Asher Li (’30) who continues to work hard, put in the effort, and get out of his comfort zone. That exertion paid off as he had another terrific race and sprint finish.
