Martlets Defeat Choate

A beautiful Fall day set the stage for an exciting matchup between the Martlets and Wild Boars on Saturday afternoon. From the opening whistle, both teams demonstrated good structure and patient play, limiting opportunities on both ends of the field. For three and a half quarters, the two squads battled to a scoreless draw. It took until the halfway mark of the final quarter for either side to break through. A true testament to the strong defensive play on both ends. With time ticking away, Westminster mounted a decisive push. Working the ball down field with speed and precision, they broke through Choate’s defense, and it was Lizzie Filippetti '28 who was able to find Campbell Corbin ‘30 in the circle. Corbin, who had been working tirelessly all game, received the ball and shot it past the keeper, causing the crowd down on Hovey to erupt! The Martlets celebrated, but knew the game was not over yet. Choate pushed hard for the remaining time and earned some offensive corners in the final minutes. The Martlets' smart defensive play helped them secure the win. Westminster earned a thrilling 1-0 victory, closing out a textbook Fall afternoon with a hard-earned team win on home turf.

Our Grit & Grace player of the game is Campbell Corbin ‘30! Not only did Campbell earn the game winning goal for the Martlets, she also gave it her all on the field from the opening minutes to the closing minutes of today's match-up.
