Martlets Fall to Master's

Thirds Boys’ Soccer hosted The Master’s School Lions on a much nicer (weather-wise) afternoon than we had on Saturday. While we talked about the opponent in preparation for the tilt, we came out sluggish and the Lions controlled the early part of the match. Seven minutes into the game TMS converted a loose ball outside our defense box after a corner kick into a goal as many players created a screen on our goalie. This goal seemed to wake us up and about halfway through the first half Tank Pan ‘29 scored off a corner kick by Lan Dao ‘29. With about one minute remaining in the half, Colin Daly ‘27 notched his second goal in as many games with a lofted shot from deep in the right corner of our offensive zone.
Early in the second half the Lions took advantage of our miscue on a goal kick which resulted in a turnover and a goal for TMS to tie the game. In the ninth minute the Lions scored on an own goal as our goalie, Sonny Darnowski ‘28 dove to his right on the shot only to see one of our defenders try to block the shot and redirect it to Sonny’s left and into the open side of the goal. We had several scoring chances including hitting at least two crossbars and the Lion’s goalie made a nice save on our PK attempt.
While our GRIT showed during the game, we need to work on our Grace…we had several incidents that should not happen with a Westminster team. Our GRIT & Grace player of the game is Sonny Darnowski who made numerous saves and kept everything calm despite the adversity he faced. Off to Pomfret on Saturday!
