Martlets Shutout Suffield

While still somewhat tired and lethargic after the long weekend off, the Thirds Boys’ Soccer team rallied to pull off a much needed 2-0 win over a struggling Suffield Academy team. Over the past several seasons, these have typically been evenly matched games often coming down to late heroics (last year a direct kick goal from just outside the box in stoppage time and three years ago a late game PK save) which provided the wins for our Martlets.
Today we started early and then kept the pressure going to preserve the W. Just a few minutes into the game CJ Berry ‘29 scored off a cross from the right side by Colin Daly ‘27. Berry’s shot was a low driven half-volley. About the 10 minute mark Berry scored again on a long break in off a through pass from Grayson Augsberger ‘29. Berry celebrated with a Cam Scattebo style backflip!
The defensive units were more consistent today and successfully cleared balls from danger areas. Aidan Glassey ‘29 and Ryden Maida ‘29 each had a strong game in their central defending roles. Sonny Darnowski ‘28 and Max Butensky ‘29 preserved the shutout with each playing a half in goal.
CJ Berry is our GRIT & Grace player of the game. In addition to his two goals, he maintained consistent offensive pressure and communicated well with his teammates. We travel to The Frederick Gunn School on Saturday before ending the season with home games each of the following Wednesdays.
