Martlets Fall in OT

Despite a fierce late-game rally, the Martlets fell just short in overtime, dropping a hard-fought contest to Northfield Mount Hermon after navigating the September Nor'easter to make the trip to Gill, MA. The Martlets controlled the opening tempo, forcing a flurry of early offensive corners and generating solid scoring chances in the early moments of the first quarter. NMH eventually settled in, responding with their own offensive pressure for the remainder of the quarter. The second quarter saw NMH capitalize on their momentum, netting two goals late in the half to build a 2-0 lead heading into the break. Westminster refused to go down quietly, staging a dramatic fourth-quarter comeback. With four minutes remaining in the third quarter, Stella Spitz ‘27 sent a long ball into the circle, and Kate Epke ‘27 collected the pass to finish and put the Martlets on the board. Then, late in the fourth quarter, Kiera Dumas ‘29, made a crucial defensive stop near midfield and connected with Madeleine Milkovich ‘28. Milkovich carried the ball downfield before finding Stella Spitz ‘27 in the circle, who buried the equalizer to tie the game at 2-2. The Martlets generated one final chance to win it in regulation, earning an offensive penalty corner in the final seconds, but were unable to convert. NMH eventually found the back of the net in overtime to secure the victory.

Our Grit & Grace player of the game is senior captain, Kate Epke. Kate showed urgency and hustle around the net which led to the Martlets first goal of the game. A turning point of the game for Westminster.
