Martlets Move to 2-0 with win over Big Green

It was a crisp fall day on Harrison Field as the Martlets battled Deerfield in a hard-fought match from start to finish. Westminster came out strong and found the back of the net 22 minutes into the first half when Natalie Czop ’27 finished off a great pass from Veyda Cruz ’30 to give the Martlets a 1-0 lead.
Less than a minute into the second half, Coslyn Bardy ’28 doubled the lead with a finish off an assist from Czop. Deerfield soon responded with 30 minutes remaining, scoring off a rebound to cut the lead to 2-1.The Big Green continued to battle and put pressure on the Martlets in an effort to equalize, but Westminster’s back line, led by Hannah Coccaro ’28, put together a gritty performance to preserve the lead and secure the 2-1 victory.
The Martlets are back in action Sunday against Nobles at the New England Girls’ College Showcase at Suffield Academy.
