Martlets Run Well in Scrimmage

The cross-country team raced in the Choate Invitational 5k race at Rosemary Hall this past Saturday. The 5k / 3.1-mile race saw twenty-one finishers for the boys, which ties for the most cross country finishers our Westy team has had in eight years. Not surprisingly, the camaraderie and teamwork for Westminster showed up and showed out throughout the race.

Although it was an “unscored” meet, race times were still recorded, and effort was still on display throughout the day. There were two boys’ races, starting with the veteran 5k race where Charlie Zhang (’28) lead the way for Westy in 19:29 followed closely by Michael Wang (’26) in 19:48, two of the best performances for a Westy runner at this particularly early season race in years. Also posting strong times for the boys in this race were Adam Heffer (’28) and Eli Heffer (’28), who gutted out a difficult afternoon on the course.

In the following novice race new Martlets Asher Squibb (’28), Leo Song (’29) – Westminster’s fastest third former – and Trey Ferretti (’29) blew out expectations, with all three runners finishing the race in under 22:13.

GRIT & Grace Award – This was an easy one as it goes to Sam Jiang (’26) who joined the team merely one day prior to this race and still astonishingly finished without walking a single step. If that isn't the definition of grit, I need to be reeducated.
