Martlets Fall on the Road

Our trip to western CT did not go as well as we hoped. We departed campus a little late and our warm-up was more limited than what we want. Despite these challenges the boys seemed ready to take on the Kent School Lions. As the contest commenced the Martlets came out hard and aggressive, but this style of play was more than the single official wanted to see and we were called for several fouls early on. Play was interrupted for a while when one of our players was injured.
Kent seemed to take advantage of this stoppage of play and scored in the 15th minute on a hard angle shot into the top corner of the goal. Only three minutes later they doubled their score when we let them pass through the center of our defense. Later in the half Kent scored again and took the 3-0 lead into halftime.
During the second half our Martlets continued to battle and had more opportunities. By the end of the match we had eight corner kicks to their five. Lan Dao ‘29 scored after receiving a nice pass from Dylan Zapata ‘27. Dao took his time and slotted the ball past the Kent goalie. Unfortunately, this would be our only goal of the game. Kent added their fourth goal about midway through the second half.
Zapata is our GRIT & Grace player of the game for his unselfish play, endurance on the field, assist, and several shots on goal including some nice headers that either squirted wide or the goalie saved.
3BS play our next game on Saturday, 9/26 @ 2pm away at Pomfret.
