Martlets Defeat Hoggers in Opener

There was an awesome energy in the air for the Martlets’ season home opener on a beautiful fall day. Westminster came out fired up from the opening whistle and controlled possession for much of the first half.
Coslyn Bardy ’28 opened the scoring with a finish off a beautifully served free kick from Callie Graby ’28, and Bardy found the back of the net again just over a minute later after a terrific ball over the top from Taylor Schreibman ’28. The Martlets carried a 2-0 lead into halftime.
NMH came out strong in the second half and put Westminster under pressure, but the Martlets weathered the storm and continued to battle. Lylah Leigner ’29 extended the lead with a finish off a cross from Natalie Czop ’27, before Bardy completed her hat trick with just under five minutes remaining, capping off a great build-up that ended with a cross from Veyda Cruz ’30.
Westminster finished the day with a 4-0 victory, with many members of the team contributing meaningful minutes. Ellie Smith ’27 recorded her first shutout of the season, while Bardy’s three-goal performance led the way for the Martlets. The Black and Gold are home again on Wednesday as they take on Deerfield.
