Martlets Defeat Bearcats

The JV Girls Soccer team opened the season with a hard fought 2-0 win versus Hotchkiss at home. The Martlets came out of the gate a little timid and cautious but contained the controlled attack from the Hotchkiss squad. About half way through the first half, Westy kicked it up a notch and started contesting and winning the 50-50 balls which ultimately paid off with a beautiful goal from Ava Aponte ‘28 off a deflection from Margaux Walter ‘27. Ava added another goal before the end of the half on a beautiful pass from Lily Pikorny ‘29.

Although the Martlets did not score again, they dominated play and controlled the ball for most of the second half. Both Anna Williams ‘30 (1st half) and Abbey Cirelli ‘27 (2nd half) contributed to the clean sheet. The defense was anchored by our Grit & Grace player of the game Felista Halvorsen ‘29 who shut down multiple offensive attacks from Hotchkiss.
