The Stanley Cup Visits Westminster

DS
Chicago Blackhawks’ player and Westminster School alumnus Ben Smith brought the Stanley Cup to Westminster School July 16 for a very special visit. Ben, who played hockey at Westminster for four years and graduated in 2006, gave some brief remarks, posed for photos with hundreds of guests and the Cup, and autographed photos.

Guests included players from the Northern Lights and the Simsbury and Avon youth hockey programs as well as members of the Westminster community. The event took place in the Armour Academic Center, and more than $2,000 was raised from signed photographs for The One Fund Boston and Westminster Crossroads Learning Program in Hartford.

Playing right wing for the Chicago Blackhawks, Ben was called up from the AHL team to join the Blackhawks for Game 3 of the Stanley Cup, making him officially part of the championship team. As is NHL tradition, every member of the team can “host” the cup, and Ben chose to share this moment at Westminster School.
