Martlets Fall to Hotchkiss in Lakeville

The Martlets hit the road again for a Wednesday afternoon matchup against Hotchkiss on a warm Fall day. Despite a determined push in the middle quarters, the Martlets fell 4-1 in a hard-fought battle against the Bearcats. Hotchkiss established an early advantage, striking just five minutes into the opening quarter and adding a second goal early in the second quarter. While the Bearcats controlled the tempo through the opening stretch, Hotchkiss's second tally served as a wake-up call for the Martlets. Regaining their composure, Westminster generated strong play, created quality offensive opportunities, and earned a series of penalty corners to shift momentum heading into halftime. Westminster carried that energy straight into the second half, capitalizing about halfway through the third quarter. Off an offensive corner, Stella Spitz ‘27 directed a dangerous ball toward the cage, where Madeleine Milkovich '28 provided the decisive touch to put the Martlets on the board and cut the deficit to 2-1. Hotchkiss responded quickly, earning and converting a penalty stroke to extend their lead to 3-1. The two sides traded chances through a competitive, back-and-forth stretch, but the Bearcats managed to put the game out of reach with a fourth goal in the final minutes. The Martlets travel to Williston on Saturday for what will be another competitive matchup.

Our Grit & Grace player of the game is Gabi Godard ‘30! Gabi’s gritty performance was highlighted by her high compete level and intentional effort.
