Westminster Artists Collective Features Faculty Talent

Faculty, staff, and students gathered in Werner Centennial Center to enjoy the artistic endeavors of faculty members who shared visual art, music and dance performances, written work, and handcrafting skills on the Booker T. Bradshaw Stage.

Walter E. Edge Jr. Master Chair Dan Aber opened the evening program by reading a baseball story. Archivist Scott Reeves followed with a presentation on how he learned the intricacies and craftsmanship required to build his own guitar during his sabbatical year. Another sports-related contribution was a squash-themed sonnet, written and read by math teacher and coach Peter Ulrich.

Kerry Kendall, Schuster Family Chair for Visual and Performing Arts, shared her annual tradition of creating a self-portrait on her birthday. She spoke about how her art was influenced by traveling during her youth, living in various places around the globe, and becoming a mother. Motherhood was also a theme in English teacher Suzanne Hayes’ personal essay on missing the beautiful chaos and challenges of having young children.

The program featured music and dance performances including Concert Band and Advanced Chamber Ensemble Director Andrew Marco, who sang an original song from his parody musical, Friday the 13th: The Musical, accompanied on piano by Director of Music David Chrzanowski. History teacher Tim Blanton played guitar and sang two songs with his wife, Allison Millett. “Watch Over You” and “In Loving Memory” were written by Alter Bridge, and Allison dedicated the latter to her father. Director of Dance Rachel Russell concluded the program with a beautiful solo dance piece.
