Martlets Blank Knights

The 3BS Martlets hosted the Salisbury Saints on a rainy, dreary, windswept Saturday afternoon as the September nor’easter kept coming in waves! Our boys were excited to play in the rain and came out for warm-ups in an upbeat and energetic mood. Unfortunately, Salisbury was quite late in arriving to campus so our game started about 45 minutes late. Despite all the time in the unpleasant weather, the boys were ready to play!
Westminster controlled the game from the outset after winning the coin toss and choosing to defend the north goal and attack with the wind at their backs. Five minutes into the tilt Dylan Park ‘29 notched an unassisted goal from the top of the box. Three minutes later Co-captain Colin Daly ‘27 scored his first Westminster career goal off an assist from Co-captain Arthur Lilley ‘27. With seven minutes remaining in the half CJ Berry ‘29 lofted a shot from the left corner that drifted over the Salisbury goalie and into the net near the far post (wind assisted?!). Just before the half ended, Co-captain Dylan Zapata ‘27 scored off an assist from Archie Downing ‘29.
All four first half goals were punctuated by team celebrations including sliding in the wet grass…except Berry who celebrated with a back flip and a team huddle!
The Martlets maintained control of the game in the second half, but did not pile on the score. Corner kicks were 8-1 in our favor for the game. Park added his second goal about midway through the half with another assist to Downing.
Our GRIT & Grace player of the game was Archie Downing who played his best game of the season with solid defending in addition to his two assists. We host cross-town The Master’s School on Wednesday at 3:30 before traveling to Pomfret on Saturday.
