Martlets and Big Green Tie

The Martlets hosted Deerfield Academy in the first of two match-ups this season on a windy but beautiful fall day on Williams Hill. Deerfield always proves to be a strong and skilled squad, and today was no different. The Martlets played a solid first half of defense, anchored by Abbey Cirelli ‘27. The majority of the play remained in the midfield with strong performances by Lily Pokorny ‘29 and Lillian Coates ‘30. Although Deerfield favored a kick and run game, our midfielders worked hard to keep the ball on the ground and pass to feet in order to combat the unpredictable wind. Despite a late push from Deerfield, the Martlets held their opponents off and earned a tie versus one of our strongest opponents of the season.

Our grit and grace player of the game is Veronica Edwards ‘27 who not only cleared a ball from the goal line at the end of the 1st half to preserve the tie, but also broke up a threat in the final minutes! Great work, Veronica!
