Martlets Tie Suffield

The Martlets traveled to play the Suffield Tigers on an unseasonably warm fall day. Westminster jumped out to a lead off a booming free kick from Max Matthews ‘30 that careened off a Suffield defender. The Martlets let up on defense late in the second half, and the Tigers capitalized, scoring two quick goals. Westminster came out re-energized in the second frame, tying the score when Marco Campos ’30 kicked in a beautiful cross from Nathan Mezheritsky ’30. Nathan kept up his productivity later in the game with another goal to put the Martlets ahead. The Tigers kept battling and tied the game with minutes to play. Westminster played hard until the final whistle and almost scored off a corner just before the last whistle blew. The Martlets exemplified grit and grace throughout the game, playing hard and keeping their composure in an intense, emotional match. The team will get back to work in practice to prepare for their first game against crosstown rival Avon Old Farms on Saturday.
