With five coaches, two gymnasiums and three teams, Westminster offers boys the opportunity to compete at the highest level of New England prep school basketball. With a renewed focus on recruitment and hard work, the First Boys’ Basketball team has shown steady improvement in recent years and has sent a number of players to competitive colleges and universities. Westminster’s basketball program dates back to the early days of the school, in which teams established a proud tradition of gritty and determined play, often against taller squads from bigger schools. The Martlets continue that tradition, practicing hard, competing fiercely, putting in extra work in the weight room and pushing each other to become the best players they can be. As a small school, Westminster will always compete against bigger schools with Grit and Grace. David Pringle ’05, rejoined the First Boys’ Basketball team as head coach in 2011, after graduating from Stonehill College, where he earned All-League honors as a member of the school’s football team. Together with assistant coach Greg Williams, coach Pringle has strengthened the program with his unparalleled commitment to the growth of his players both on and off the court. During the 2016-2017 season, the team advanced to the Quarter-finals of the Class B New England Tournament.
