Book, Music and Lyrics by Anaïs Mitchell

Hadestownis presented through special arrangement with Concord Theatricals.

Hadestown, a musical by Anaïs Mitchell and Rachel Chavkin, reimagines the myths of Orpheus and Eurydice alongside Hades and Persephone in a post-apocalyptic, steampunk world. Blending folk, jazz, and blues, it tells a haunting story of love, loss, and hope.

The story follows Orpheus as he journeys to the underworld to rescue Eurydice, who is drawn there by Hades’s promise of security and trapped in an endless factory of forgotten souls. At the same time, the troubled marriage of Hades and Persephone reflects cycles of decay and renewal that shape both worlds.

Beyond its mythic roots, Hadestown explores power, inequality, and resilience, offering a moving reflection on sacrifice, love, and the courage to imagine a better future.
