Deerfield edges out Westminster in a back-and-forth battle

The Second Girls' Lacrosse team faced off against a talented Deerfield team on another beautiful spring Saturday. While Deerfield netted the first goal, the first half was dominated by the Martlets, who scored six unanswered goals. After three minutes, Lily Farriss '19 put the Martlets on the board by collecting a rebound of a shot by Shannon Keefe '19 and burying it in the upper corner. Within the next five minutes Farriss scored three more times and assisted a nifty goal by Keefe. Rosy Sieglaff '18 and Cynnie White '17 teamed up for the final Martlet goal of the first half. The Martlets appeared to be in control of the game but then the depth of the Deerfield bench began to take its toll. The Martlets, who were missing several players due to illness and injury, started the game with only two subs and soon were down to only one midway into the second half. The team fought bravely on, despite its depleted ranks, but just ran out of gas in the waning moments of the game, losing 9-11. Once again, goalkeeper Nadia Lee '18 and a beautifully coordinated defensive effort by Maddie Dwyer '18, Julia Carter '16, Liza Lennox '18, Brinley Cuddeback '17, Lexi Organ '16 and Susie Renehan '19 thwarted many Deerfield offensive plays to keep the game close. The team has a week to refresh before their next game on Saturday
