Second Girls' Lacrosse mounts comeback but gives up late goals in loss

A beautiful sunny afternoon was the perfect backdrop to an exciting, down-to-the-wire lacrosse game at Williston Northampton. Williston jumped out to a two goal lead early, and while Westminster had trouble finding their rhythm on offense, their strong defense kept the game close, ending the first half down 2-5. The Martlets came out of halftime with renewed focus and quickly began chipping away at Williston's lead. Two minutes into the half Caroline Percival '19 scooped up a ground ball in the midfield and made a pass to Lily Farriss '19, who drove to the cage and dished the ball to Shannon Keefe '19 for the nifty put away. Two minutes later, Abby Newman '16 nipped the upper corner, assisted by O'Keefe and Jill Parsons '19. The Martlets scored several beautiful goals on quick transitions and Farriss tied the game on a free position with 15 minutes to play. After a Williston time-out, the teams traded goal-for-goal until Rosy Sieglaff '18 rolled the crease and put the Martlets up by one with six minutes to play. Williston tied it up and then netted the game winner with :38 seconds left on the clock. Goalie Nadia Lee '18 made some crucial saves in the second half and the defensive unit of Caroline Percival, Liza Lennox '18, Maddie Dwyer '18, Brinley Cuddeback '17, Susie Renehan '19 and Julia Carter '16 played tough and smart all afternoon.
