Third Boys' Hockey remain tied with the Springfield Rifles after regular time and OT

Westminster's Third Boys' Hockey played a hard and energetic game, building off the success of their opening tilt against Berkshire, and came away with a tie on Monday night. Hosting the Springfield Rifles on a cold December night, the young Martlets skated to a 0-0 first period before breaking onto the scoreboard off a rocket from Tommy Babington '16. The Rifles countered with two quick goals to take a 2-1 lead with 5 min left. Brendan Jacobs '17 (2 goals on the game) provided the spark on the power play as he knotted the game at 2-2 as the second period closed out with hard end-to-end action. The Rifles again took the lead at 9:29 of the third before Jake Szykowny '17 scored a power play goal at 5:32  to tie things up. Jacobs tallied his second goal 16 seconds later, but the Rifles tied it up with 3:39 left in the third. OT was a hard-fought affai, and it was fitting that the game was skated to a tie given the effort on both sides. Red Hots to the Defensive unit of Merlin Ennis '17, Arthur Renehan '17, Tommy Babington '16, Jake Szykowny '17, Whit Ellingwood '17 and Matt Cosentino '18, who played strong and aggressive defense.
