Martlets Give It Their All

With a late start to the game, Westminster had a hard time being present in the first few minutes against Taft. With the knowledge that the Martlets only had two subs for the entire 50 minute match, they utilized a time out early in order to regroup and discuss strategy. After this, they hit the ground running as they began to spread out and play with patience. By the end of the first half, the Black and Gold had 5 consecutive offensive corners that were handled beautifully. They continued to play the Westminster way, and though the first half ended 1-0 Taft, they knew they could match them. Westminster came out strong in the second half, charging against Taft's strong defense. Finally, Sydney Autorino '17 scored a goal out of a muddle in front of the net, which tied up the game. There were many relieved sounds coming from the crowd, and a few shrill shrieks from the players on the field. As the game progressed, Autumn Prete '15 and Julia Carter '16 took up the rear as they constantly supported the ball, the team, and each other. Rachel Halfon '16 hustled throughout the offensive side of the field for the entire game. And though the Martlets could not muster up another goal, it was clear that they won the second half hands down. The girls played fantastic field hockey, and upheld the motto of "grit and grace."

We will host Renbrook on Tuesday at 4pm, as well as Deerfield on Wednesday at 3:15
