Big Runs, Big Win

Westminster used two big runs - at the beginning of each half to keep away a pesky Williston team. Sixth formers Evan Yenor, Jack Rubino, Alemante Tedla and Christian Barral-Arteta started their final home game with Cade Von Gal '14.  Von Gal got the scoring started with a three pointer and four minutes later, the Martlets led 9-1.  Westminster's own Fab Five then entered the game and built a 20-8 lead.  Noah Fosse-Greiner '16, Jack Werner '16, Scott Williams '16, Carl Doucette '16, and Ricardo Vazquez '16 had a great run in the first half.  But Williston hung tough and Westminster led 24-18 at the break.  The Fab Five started the second half on a 9-0 run.  Williams hit a three pointer and Doucette nailed two free throws to give the Martlets their largest lead of the game.  But once again, Williston crawled back in the game.  Yenor and Vazquez helped settle things down and Barral-Arteta hit the free throws to seal the victory.  In the end thirteen Martlets scored.  Yenor led with eight points, Barral-Arteta and Vazquez had six points, Williams, Werner, and Von Gal finished with five, Rubino and Ken Barnes '16 had four each, and Fosse-Greiner, Doucette, Tyler Buckley '15, Charlie Niles '14, and Joey Oh '15 each had two.  This was a true team effort.  The boys will work hard to get ready for Taft on Saturday.
