Cold Martlets Unable To Score

It was a cold and dreary day in New Milford and the Martlets were even colder from the floor.  Layups and free throws were the difference in the six point loss to the Saints, 42-48.  Once again, Westminster started well with Scott Williams '16 hitting a three point shot and Ricardo Vazquez '16 draining another.  The Saints were steady and strong on defense and rebounding and Canterbury led 26-22 at halftime.  Although he did not score as much, Jack Werner '16 settled down the offense and was masterful with seven assists and one turnover.  Christian Barral-Arteta '13 proved to be effective as well with 4 assists and no turnovers.  Charlie Niles '14 hit a big three pointer from the corner and the Martlets remained close throughout the game.  Evan Yenor '13 led the Martlets with 8 rebounds.  Again, it was Williams leading the way with 15 points, including three 3 point shots.  Yenor had 8 and Werner had 6.  Joey Oh '15 had his best game of the year, with 6 points and 3 assists.  Oh also had a conventional three point play toward the end of the game to bring Westminster within four points of the lead.  But this day belonged to weather and to the Saints.  Let's hope things warm up against Loomis next Wednesday.
