Martlets Win Tight, Exciting Game To Complete Season

Ryan Cholnoky '12 had 3 goals and Gordon Santry '12 made 12 saves as the Martlets earned their 10th win making it 3 consecutive seasons in double-digit wins.  Hotchkiss came out fast scoring twice in the first 2 minutes, but Westminster's defense (Dunn, Gould, Latour, Lyons, Pietroforte, Santry, and Stevens) dug in and held the visiting Bearcats scoreless for the next 9 minutes while Andy Dines '12, Cholnoky (game ball), and Curtis MacKenzie '12 each got one to put the Martlets ahead.  With a 6-4 lead at the half, Westminster had some good momentum going into the remaining 24 minutes, but Hotchkiss battled back to tie it at 6 by the end of the third. The defensive game continued until, out of a time-out, Westminster ran a play that got the Hotchkiss D sliding and Cholnoky found Dillon Tiner '12 on the crease for the 7th and winning goal with just over 5 minutes to play.  Both teams had their chances in the final minutes, but the D held on as Alec Dunn '13 shut down the Bearcats' final run at the cage to secure the win.  It was an exciting finish to another good season for Westminster Lacrosse.
