Martlets Fall Just Short

On a cloudy and windy day on Choate's lower team lacrosse field, Westminster exhibited fantastic intensity but came up a goal short, losing to the Wild Boars 4 - 5. Despite out ground balling Choate 43 - 38 and out shooting Choate 30 - 22, the Martlets could never pull even with the Wild Boars. The attackmen, Ryan Seymour '15, Eli Zempsky '15, Sam Pope '12, Alex Connal '15, and George Brown '15, did an outstanding job riding and forcing Choate's defense and goalie into many dropped balls, and the long poles, Drew Simeon '15, Brennan Cross '15, Riley Bitterli '14, and Avery Leveston '15 did a great job pressuring Choate's middies and attack into errant passes and dropped balls, but the Martlets simply did not convert enough of the opportunities into goals. Pope led the Martlets scoring with 1 goal and 1 assist, Preston Miller '13, Zempsky, and Lorin Tobey '15 each added 1 goal and Seymour and Austen Tibbetts '14 each added 1 assist. Patrick Holowesko '12 was outstanding both in and out of the net. The Martlets fell behind 0 - 2 and trailed 1 - 3 at the end of the first, as well as at the half, 2 - 4 at 3/4, and then trailed by 3 until rallying to the final 4 - 5 result, after doubling their shots during both second half. The Martlets are at the cusp of great play: they have outstanding intensity, exhibit outstanding riding, are improving their team defense each day, and have increased the shots taken each game. Now they just have to improve the crispness and effectiveness of their passing, catching, and scoring.
