Martlets Unable To Convert

The Martlets dropped a close one to visiting Salisbury on a windswept pitch.  Much of the game was a battle in the middle of the field with neither side able to establish extended possession.  The Crimson Knights found some success on the flanks while the Black and Gold probed the Salisbury defense with long balls.  Although the visitors enjoyed an overall advantage, the most dangerous chances came when Stan Sandoval '13 freed himself for shots after gathering in balls on the right flank.  With the first half having ended scoreless, Salisbury had the first real good chance in the 55th minute, but Jake Crow '12 came up with a great acrobatic save on a high hard drive to keep the sheet clean.  Several minutes later Sandoval freed himself just outside of the box, but his hard shot went right at the keeper.  The lone score came in the 69th minute when a Salisbury corner kick went all the way over the goal mouth where it found a waiting foot.  After juking back to the middle the ball was driven home for what would prove to be the game winner.  Pushing men forward generated some good pressure in the waning minutes and the Salisbury box was breached several times, but the equalizer would not come.  Once again Greg Jarvis '13 and Jack Zaykowski '12 were industrious in midfield all day, while good work was turned in on defense by Lorin Tobey '15.  The boys will be eager for another chance at home on Wednesday.
