Martlets Earn First Win

Playing for the second day in a row, the First Boys got into the win column by prevailing 2-0 in West Hartford.  The game saw lots of activity in and around both teams' boxes (KO took 7 corners and 11 shots while the Martlets had 5 corners and 18 shots). But the game was scoreless at the half, thanks at least in part to two fine saves by co-captain Jake Crow '12 in the opening minutes.  In fact, both teams were blanked through 80 minutes before co-captain Stan Sandoval '13 scored twice in the span of two minutes to give the Martlets the win.  The first came on a quick counterattack, as he took a fine pass from Kiki Terry '12, dribbled past a defender into space and blasted a shot into the back of the net.  Shortly thereafter, Frankie Ianantuono '14 was sent through down the right flank.  His sharp-angled drive at the net could not be handled by the keeper, and Sandoval drove home the loose ball from the doorstep.  A fine performance was again turned in by Amory Beldock '12 on defense, helped by Connor Janson '13 and Brandon Kumnick '12, while co-captain Greg Jarvis '13 was again the engine driving the midfield.  The boys will look forward to a bit of rest before heading up to Deerfield on Wednesday.
