Martlets Dig Hole, Hard To Get Out

Despite their best effort of the year so far, the Martlets dropped to 0-5 with a 4-0 loss to visiting Williston.  The Wildcats struck early, banging home a cross from close range in the 5th minute.  Two more scores five minutes apart in the middle of the half sent the Martlets into the intermission with another hole from which they would have to climb.  The second half saw much better ball control from the home side and several good scoring chances – the best was a tremendous strike from Stan Sandoval '13 that called for a good save, but the boys could not find the back of the net.  A goal in the final minute brought the scoring to a close.  Fine performances were turned in in defeat by co-captain Greg Jarvis '13, who was indefatigable in midfield; Frankie Iannantuono '14, who had his best game to date on the flank; and Amory Beldock '12, who won almost all of his individual battles on defense and did a good job of finding feet after winning the ball.  The boys will hope for better luck as they take the road for a rare Thursday game tomorrow at Kingswood.
