Martlets Give It Their All

The Third Boys' Lacrosse team dropped a tough game to a highly skilled Avon squad.  Despite giving up ten goals, the team worked very hard defensively, and all four long poles, Brooks King '12, Dima Kaigorodov'12, Dongho Park '13, and Anish Chadalavada'14 each had a number of nice takeaways.  Austin Pope '13 also did a great job keeping the game close early with a number of strong saves.  Despite playing almost the entirety of the first three quarters on defense and going into the fourth quarter down 8-0, the Martlets did not give up and actually made the fourth quarter their best of the game.  After a number of  Westminster shots missed high, attackman Morgan Heck '14 decided it was time for a Martlet goal, and single handily picked up a ground ball, dodged past three men, and fired a hard bounce shot, past the Avon netminder.  This highlight was followed up by a nice goalie my midfielder Elliot Gilford '11 who also used a bounce shot to beat the Avon goalie.  Midfielders Patrick Spano '12, Greg Jarvis '13, and Tommy Griffith '14 also logged a lot of good minutes in the game.  While a loss like this is a tough pill to swallow, the Martlets walked off the field with their heads held high knowing that they had given it their all.
