Great Game But Doesn't End in Martlets Favor

Second Boys' Hockey had a heart breaking 2-3 loss to traveling Kent. After Davie Hovey '09 tied the game in the first period by redirecting a Joe Putko '08 pass, Westminster's Nick Crosby '10 earned a big shorthanded goal (the only goal in the second period) by sliding a Conor McGovern '08 pass by the Kent netminder. With less than three minutes on the clock in the final period and Westminster up 2-1, the Martlets struggled to get the puck out of their end which resulted in a Kent tying goal. Now, with the momentum clearly in Kent's favor, the visitors tipped a shot from the left point and got the winning goal with only 30 seconds remaining in the game. The Martlets played 41 minutes of fine hockey against a very strong Kent team and just couldn't make the safe defensive plays when it counted most. It was a extremely competitive game played by two really good squads. Matt Betten '10 played well in the Westminster nets as did his counterpart from Kent.
