Another Tough Game for First Girls' Hockey

After two tough losses against Choate and Taft, Westminster had to make sure they did not have a let down against probably the best team in New England, Nobles. Last year, having beaten them 2-0, they would be out for revenge. In the first period, the game went back and forth, but Nobles had the edge and had a number of good scoring opportunities. Kayla Lessard ‘08 was solid in net and kept the game close. Noble broke through and scored two. Then at the end of the
period on a two man advantage, Nicole Palazzo '08 scored to cut their lead in half. In the second period, the play was more even as both teams had opportunities, both Nicole Fox ‘10 and Sara Ugalde ‘10 fired shots just over the crossbar. Nobles scored again to take a 3-1 advantage. The Martlets were not discouraged but started working harder. Finally the Black and Gold broke
through and Ugalde buried a rebound on a shot by Casey Breese '11. In the third period, outstanding defensive play by Amanda Boulier ‘11 kept Nobles at bay. Unfortunately, with 5:30 to play, Nobles got the insurance goal they needed. In the last two minutes, Westminster carried the play and had some good chances but just could not score. The team hopes to rebound against Kingswood-Oxford on Monday.
