Big Win for Second Boys' Hockey

Second Boys' Hockey traveled to Pomfret and went home with a convincing 11-2 victory. The balanced attack featured eight different goal scorers: Joe Putko '08 and Kirby Zdrill '09 tallied two goals each and Tim Gray '11, Hunter Spannaus '09, Conor McGovern '08, Charlie McGwire '08, Matt Mahany '10 and Sam Stanton '10 each produced one goal. Nick Crosby '10 picked up two assists on the day with a host of other Martlets collecting a lone assist. Once the team started to move the puck after a lackluster first period, the Black and Gold took control of the game and never looked back. It must be stated that Pomfret's second goal was the result of an NHL-like blast from a bad angle which somehow found the near corner of the net -- really impressive. Westminster played a different goalie during each period of this game (Ben Ross '10, Patrick Niedermeyer '10 and Steve Seymour '10), and they all played well. The coaches and team would like to thank all the parents who came to support the team at this far away contest, particularly Joe Putko's family, who seemingly brought every living relative from the state of Texas to the woods of Eastern Connecticut in support of Joe and the team. Fortunately, Joe had a very good game and didn't disappoint the faithful.
