Second Field Hockey Brings Home a Tie

Westminster traveled to Williston this evening to face their undefeated team on a fast turf field.  The evenly matched game was highly competitive and exciting from the first whistle.  The team adapted quickly to the artificial surface and worked to keep possession through accurate one-touch passing. The defense of Lisa Cavazuti '08, Isabelle Hill '09, Claire Hodson'11, Lindsay Laird '09, Juliette McComb '09, and Kelsey Murphy '09 worked effectively to thwart Williston's drives and clear the ball from our goal.  Sarah Shanfield '08 had seven athletic saves in the goal.  Ten minutes into the game Westminster netted the first goal on a perfectly executed penalty corner.  Halley Cruice '11 sent a blistering shot to the goal, and although the Williston goalie managed to get behind it for the save, Whitney Fitzpatrick '09 was able to deflect the rebound to the back of the net.  Williston came back to tie the game with nine minutes left to play, and Westminster then responded with even higher levels of intensity.  As the clock wound down the Martlets generated many more strong scoring opportunities, but were unable to score a second goal.  This was a well-played game and good team effort by all.
