Westminster Defeats Deerfield

Before a large crowd at Deerfield, Westminster won a fast and physical Founder's league game 3 to 1. Westminster, needing a win to make the New England Prep School Division 1 tournament, opened the scoring in the first period. Jason Saraceno '07 banged in a rebound of a Ben Smith '06 shot. Late in the second period on a power play, David Earl '06 scored to open up a 2-0 lead. Deerfield charged back in the third period and scored with 10:00 minutes left in the game.

Both teams had good scoring chances late in the game. Smith scored an empty net goal to secure the win. Bill Weiderseim '07, playing in only his third game of the season, made several key saves during the game. Westminster will play Salisbury, the #1 ranked team in New England, at Salisbury on Wednesday in the first round of the tournament.
