Westminster Over Pomfret

The Westminster Boys Varsity Hockey team found a way to win tonight in front of a capacity crowd at Jackson rink. The Martlets got on the board first late in the first period on the power play. Jon Wolter '06 found the back of the net on a power play to give Westminster an early 1-0 lead. Just as the period was coming to a close Pomfret was able to respond and scored with just 12 seconds left in the period. The second period was very fast with both teams flying up and down the ice. Bryce Shattie '06 made the majority of his 21 saves in this frame.

Pomfret once again found the back of the net late in the 2nd to lift them to a 2-1 lead. The Martlets would not be denied and came out flying in the third period. They set the tone from the drop of the puck in the third period. With just 4:05 left in the game Ben Smith '06 found Ollie Koo '08 who beat the goalie on a bang-bang play to tie the game at 2. A little over a minute later Smith took a pass from Nick Pitsikoulis '07 and again beat the Pomfret netminder to put Westminster in the lead.

Pomfret, in desperation, pulled their goalie to mount an attack that was quickly defeated as Koo picked up the puck at neutral ice and found Wolter who slid the puck into the empty net to claim his second goal of the game and to seal a much deserved victory for the Westminster Martlets. The entire team skated well and made this win possible.
