Total team effort in win over Worcester Academy

Lily Shuster '27 blasted a 3 run homer in the seventh inning to lead the Martlets to an important 9-5 win over Worcester Academy. Gabby de la Fe '27 and Melody El-Amin' 27 each had two RBIs for the Martlets. Mya Polastry '27 and Caitlyn Eaton '27 added two hits apiece during the win. Natalie House '29 pitched very well in relief over the last five innings against a strong Worcester lineup. In the first frame, de la Fe doubled, El-Amin singled, and three batters walked to give Westy a 2-0 advantage. Anna Hassett '27 pitched effectively in the first two innings, yielding just one Worcester run. El-Amin opened the third inning with a home run, followed by Polastry and Eaton base hits to create a 3-1 Martlet lead. However, Worcester answered with a few hits and two runs scored in the bottom of the fourth. In the fifth inning, Shuster, de la Fe, El-Amin, and Jane Curtiss '28 each singled, putting Westy ahead 6-3. The see-saw battle continued as the Hilltoppers added two runs in the bottom of the frame. Polastry and Eaton opened the seventh with hits and then Shuster launched a ball over the centerfield fence to give Westy a 9-5 lead. House then sealed the win with strong pitching. Defensive highlights included a spectacular running catch in right field by Polastry and exceptional work behind the plate by El-Amin, who called a great game and threw out a runner attempting to steal. Centerfielder Shuster also threw out a runner attempting to score in the 6th inning.  With the win, the Martlets have earned a spot in the Western New England Class A Tournament and will play at Loomis Chaffee at 2:30pm on Saturday.
