Martlets Fall to Taft

The undefeated Rhinos came in missing a few players, but still showed their skills against the Martlets, who played with both grace and grit up and down the ladder. Most of the Westminster girls were able to win about four games. Co-captain Avery Gray ‘26 played well and just wasn’t able to hold on, suffering her first defeat of the season. The same was true for Co-captain Luna Yang ‘26, who made a strong surge at the end of her match to close to 5-6. Edie Goodyear ‘28 and Lulu Dawson ‘27 played the closest match of the day. The score was never more than a game apart until the very end when Taft won the final two games of the pro-set. Dawson and Goodyear never quite figured out how to deal with the strong and seemingly ubiquitous net play of one of their opponents. Yet they tried different tactics and kept the match close throughout. Pippa Jervis ‘28 and Lake Carter ‘28 won the Grit and Grace award today with their inspired play. They worked well together, switching seamlessly when needed; they were kind and generous in their interactions; they held off a mid set surge by the Taft duo to record a “W” for the team.
