Martlets Fall to Taft

Westminster girls’ squash faced one of their toughest challenges of the season on Wednesday. The afternoon was marked by a bittersweet celebration of Senior Night, as the Martlets honored Breslav ’26 in her final appearance on the home courts. While Taft ultimately secured the win, the matches were high intensity and several standout performances from the Westminster middle-ladder.
The match of the day belonged to Khuu ’27, who engaged in a five-set marathon. After splitting the first four games, Khuu showcased incredible mental toughness in the deciding set, recovering from a difficult 2–11 fourth game to clinch the win with an 11–7 finish. Mertz ’29 also provided a spark for the Martlets; after dropping her opening game, she roared back to win three straight, including a nail-biting 12–10 tie-breaker to seal her 3–1victory.
Kylie Newberg ’27 and Hyeonjin Lee ’29 gained valuable experience in exhibition play. While the Taft opponents proved strong, both Newberg and Lee held their own in competitive sets. The evening concluded with a heartfelt tribute to Breslav ‘26, whose leadership and dedication have left a lasting mark on the team.
