Martlets Defeat Porter's

The Martlets made the short drive over a few towns over to Farmington to take on Miss Porters. Going in with only 6 healthy and eligible players to play, we started down 1-0 overall and dropped the first game in two matches. Not to be outdone, the Martlets dug in to take all matches played, many of which were very close. Wynne Prichett ‘28 evened the score with a 3,5,9 win at #2. Her opponent made a push for game 3 but Wynne’s athleticism and shot selection got the job done efficiently. Fatima Al Abood ‘28 dropped her first game but rallied to win the next three. She made some nice adjustments to pull this off in 4 tight games! Lilly McMillen ‘27 got off to a first start in game one before her opponent reeled off a few points consecutively to take the first. She also made nice adjustments to keep hitting it deep and won the next 3 games fairly routinely at 2,7,5. With a 3-1 lead going into the second round of matches, the Martlets only needed to win one of the remaining 3 matches to seal the team win. Lucy Morton ‘26 sealed the win for the Martlets at #1 with a 2,7,6 win. She was efficient and dominated this match with her steady play and delicate drop shots. Clara Covill ‘26 split a tight first two games at #5 before making some adjustments to take the final two at 11-6,11-6. She used her movement around the court and deep shots to good effect in this match. Finally, Saleha Rahimi ‘27 saw herself down 1-2 in games after dropping the 2nd and 3rd games. She went back out for the 4th game with confidence, knowing she had it in her to take the final two games and win the match. That is exactly what she did as she took the next two games with relative ease (6,3) to seal the “sweep”. Although the overall score was not officially a sweep, the Martlets left knowing we won all matches played that day and were happy with how they played. We return to Kohn Squash Pavillion once more as a team for senior day on Wednesday when we play Taft for a second time. Having lost to them in a very tight 4-3 match in the first match of the season, the Martlets look to level the score.
