Martlets Battle Williston

The Martlets traveled up to Northampton and took on a tough varsity team from Williston and fell in a competitive 4-3 result. Williston got off to a strong start with a 3-0 win at #2. Lucy Morton ‘26 fought hard to keep her games close but fell to a stronger opponent. Saleha Rahimi ‘27 quickly dropped the first game at #4 and after getting up to a 6-1 lead in the second game, eventually closed it out 14-12. She got off to a similar lead in game 3, but could not capitalize on this lead and dropped the next two games at 9 and 6 to put the hosts ahead 2-0. Luna Yang ‘26 took a commanding first game 11-5 before dropping the next two at #6. After many back and forth points in the final two games, Luna took them both with 11-8, 11-9 scores to grab the first point for the Martlets. Clara Covill ‘26 and Clover Cooper ‘26 played competitive points at #7 and #1 respectively, but fell 3-0 to challenging opponents to seal the win for the home team. Not to be deterred or give up, Wynne Prichett ‘28 and Lilly McMillen ‘27 ensured the match ended with a 4-3 result(matching the Martlets performance from last year). Lilly took the first two games at #5 quickly, 11-5 and 11-5. The third game went back and forth before the Williston player took it 11-9. Lilly rebounded quickly and took the 4th game 11-5. Wynne took a competitive first game 11-7, but then quickly dropped the second game 3-11. She made some nice adjustments throughout the third game, allowing her to take it 12-10. After another tight game which she dropped 9-11, Wynne and her opponent went back and forth in the fifth game before Wynne was able to win the final two points for a dramatic 13-11 5th game win! Fatima Al Abood ‘28 and Lily Abdel-Meguid ‘26 both played good matches at exhibition #8,9 and 10. A very tight affair that sadly did not go our way. The girls enjoyed a quick stop at Starbucks before the return to Simsbury, and are excited to return to Kohn Squash Pavillion on Friday against Suffield.
