Martlets Victorious over Williston

Although everyone seemed a bit rusty from the long weekend, that didn’t prevent a decisive 6-1 victory over Williston Northampton, including two strong wins in exhibition matches from Gid Williams ‘27 and Elijah Woodard ‘29.  Alessio Suarez ‘28 bounced back from some recent illness to win in 3 games, though not without a strong challenge by an opponent who played a great game in the front court.  Tyson Mertz ‘27, Sean Tang ‘28, Rafa Rodrigues ‘28, and Zach Li ‘27 all found success when they got back to the fundamentals — deep rail shots and picking off volleys after taking control of the point.  Daniel Frid ‘27 had the longest battle of the match, bouncing back from 1-2 to win in 5 games.  Daniel’s deep lobs were on full display today, frustrating his opponent in the back court and helping Daniel conserve his energy while really moving his opponent around.  Next up is a tri-match — a rematch against Avon Old Farms, this time joined by Choate.

Grit & Grace Award:  Daniel Frid ‘27 gets the nod today, for bouncing back after fatigue set in mid-match.  Down 1-2 (with those 2 losses being close 10-12 and 9-11 games), Daniel regrouped and dominated in games 4 and 5 with decisive 11-5, 11-4 wins.
