Martlets get OT Win over Deerfield

The Martlets hosted Deerfield on Wednesday afternoon for a classic Housatonic League showdown, and both teams delivered a fast, physical, back-and-forth battle that lived up to its billing. With both programs playing strong hockey throughout the month, the stage was set for a tight contest — and this one needed overtime to decide.
Deerfield opened the scoring early in the first period, but Westminster answered midway through the frame when Gus McGarvey ’26 finished a feed from Timmy Donohue ’26 to knot the game at 1–1.
The second period saw the intensity ramp up. Westminster grabbed the lead when George Tsatas ’26 buried a power-play goal off a pass from Owen Burke ’26. Deerfield responded to tie the game, but the Martlets struck again later in the period when Owen Burke ’26 scored off assists from Donohue and McGarvey, sending Westminster into the third with a 3–2 advantage.
The third period was pure drama. Deerfield once again evened the score, but Westminster reclaimed the lead when McGarvey notched his second of the afternoon at 8:34, set up by Donohue, making it 4–3. Deerfield refused to go away and scored late to force overtime.
In the extra session, Westminster controlled possession and earned the game-winner at the 4:00 mark of overtime when Brenden Gilooly ’26 tipped home the game winner , sealing a thrilling 5–4 overtime victory for the Martlets.
