Martlets Defeat Canterbury

Pettee Gymnasium played host to another JV classic, one that unfolded with the familiar rhythms of effort, adjustment, and resolve. The Martlets opened the afternoon sharply, moving the ball with purpose and taking advantage of Canterbury turnovers to build an early cushion. Though Black and Gold went to the locker room down by one at the half, there was little sense of panic. Westminster emerged for the second half ready to engage, and the response was decisive. Calvin Bixby ’26 set the scoring pace, pouring in 16 points and knocking down a pair of three-pointers that steadied the offense at key moments. Connor Gray ’26 made his impact felt in the most fundamental ways, relentlessly attacking the basket, earning five trips to the free-throw line as part of a 13-point afternoon, and anchoring the defensive end with a timely block that halted a Saints surge. On the glass, Sonny Darnowski ’28 and Jacoby Jones ’27 did the necessary work, securing rebounds and limiting Canterbury to one-shot possessions. Westminster seized the lead late and, just as importantly, held it. A true team victory, built on composure and competitiveness, and one that reflected the grit developing within this locker room.
