Martlets Fall to Wyverns

1/16/26
Girls Varsity Basketball
Westminster 16 Kingswood Oxford 58

As the Martlets made the trip to Kingswood for a Friday night match up, they knew they would be facing a tough opponent. However, they maintained composure against KO’s pressure and worked hard on the defensive end to contain the Wyvern’s speed and strong shooting. Delia Lockwood ‘26 helped lead the attack and provided valuable points alongside Kaitlyn Buda ‘27 who finished the night with 9 points. Gianna Monaco ‘27 and Parker Perillo ‘26 spent much of the night sprinting to prevent transition scores and limit their opponent’s ability to penetrate the paint, but their efforts never faltered. Lily O’Callaghan ‘28 also logged valuable minutes, helping to sustain Westminster’s defensive intensity and Charlotte Evanko ‘29 racked up a few nice blocks. In the end, the Martlets were not able to get off as many shots as they would have liked, but each player helped contribute to the effort and should be proud of their hustle on both ends. The Martlets will have a quick turnaround after tonight’s game as they prepare to hit the road to Canterbury tomorrow.
