Martlets Open Season with a Win

The Westminster Swim Team had a fantastic first start to the season, with the entire Westy community coming together to help run the meet. Needing physical timers for each lane, over sixteen volunteers showed up to help the coaches and swimmers pull off a successful meet. The Girls’ began the season with a win, seeing strong performances across the board. Individual event winners were: Sunshine Li in the 50 Freestyle, Jasmine Fu in the 100 Freestyle, and Sunshine Li in the 500 Freestyle. Strong relay performances occurred as well: The Girls 4 x 50 Medley Relay (Jasmine Fu, Susan Wang, Catherine Hogan, and Sunshine Li) took first place. The Girls 4 x 50 Freestyle relay also scored first (Isla Cauchi, Susan Wang, Maya Tran, and Cameron Perillo.) Congrats to all for a great meet and special shout out to Susan Wang, Susan Wang, Catherine Hogan, Maya Jones, Taylor O’Connell, and Maya Tran for competing in their first meet as Martlets!

The Boys battled tough as well and had some great finishes. Individual event winners were: John Dwyer in the 200 IM and 100 Fly, and Ben Yu in the 100 Backstroke. The Boys also had a terrifically impressive 4 x 100 Freestyle relay at the end of the meet, fighting for a ridiculously close finish and gaining the first spot by less than half a second. This relay team was composed of John Dwyer, Will Larock, Ben Yu, and Jesse Yang. It was a truly terrific end to a strong meet and brought a great jolt of electricity and excitement to the pool deck. Congratulations to all and special shout out to Dylan Park, Long Vu, and Seojun Youk for competing in their first meet as Martlets!
